FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Work

Are your ceramic pieces food safe?
Yes — all functional ceramics (mugs, bowls, yunomi, guinomi, chawan) are food safe and finished with food-safe glazes. Each piece is fired to cone 10, making the clay body fully vitrified and non-porous.

Are they microwave and dishwasher safe?
They are microwave safe. For dishwasher use, handwashing is recommended to preserve the glaze finish and extend the life of the piece — especially for pieces with iron-rich or reduction-fired surfaces.

Are all pieces truly one of a kind?
Yes. Every piece is made by hand, one at a time. No two are identical. Variations in color, surface texture, and form are part of what makes handmade ceramics special.

What clay and firing methods do you use?
Lin works in stoneware and porcelain, primarily using reduction firing, soda firing, and wood-influenced techniques. Many pieces are thrown on a wheel or hand-built at Paseo Pottery in Oklahoma City under master potter Collin Rosebrook.

Ordering & Custom Work

Do you accept custom orders or commissions?
Yes, on a limited basis. If you have something specific in mind — a glaze color, a functional form, or a painting subject — reach out via the contact page and Lin will let you know if it's something she can take on.

Can I request a specific size or color?
Because each piece is made by hand, exact replication isn't possible. But Lin is happy to discuss what you're looking for and find something that fits, or create something new.

Shipping & Delivery

How are ceramics packaged?
Every piece is wrapped and packed with care — multiple layers of bubble wrap, foam, and box-within-a-box where needed. Lin takes packaging seriously because she knows how much these pieces matter.

How long does shipping take?
Orders ship within 3–5 business days via USPS Priority Mail or UPS. Delivery typically takes an additional 2–5 days depending on your location. You'll receive a tracking number by email once your order ships.

Do you ship internationally?
Currently shipping within the United States only. International shipping may be available for select pieces — contact Lin directly to ask.

What if my piece arrives damaged?
Please photograph the damage and the packaging immediately and email Lin at lin@hawaiifoodtours.com within 48 hours of delivery. Damaged pieces will be replaced or refunded — no questions asked.

Paintings

Are paintings shipped flat or rolled?
Canvas paintings are shipped stretched on their frames, well-protected with corner guards and foam. Smaller works on canvas board ship flat.

Are prints available?
At this time, all works are originals only. No prints. When you buy a Lin Kensington painting, you own the only one.
